Google Maps Ranking Service for Peterborough Trades Businesses

Three businesses show up in the map pack. Everything I do is built to make sure you’re one of them.

Google Maps Ranking Service for Peterborough Trades Businesses

Three businesses show up when someone searches for a trade near them in Google Maps. Below those three, most people never scroll. If you’re not one of the three, the searcher who was about to call you calls one of your competitors instead, often without ever seeing your name.

Why the Map Pack Behaves Differently to Normal Search

Ranking in the map pack isn’t the same game as ranking a website on page one of Google. It’s driven by a different mix of signals, proximity to the searcher, category match, review count and quality, profile completeness, and how actively the profile is managed. A beautifully built website with a neglected Google Business Profile still loses the map pack to a rougher website backed by a properly managed profile.

What Actually Moves the Needle

Getting into that top three consistently comes down to the combination of everything else I handle: a fully optimised profile with the right primary and secondary categories, consistent citations across the directories that carry weight, a steady flow of recent reviews, and content on your website that reinforces exactly what your profile claims. None of these alone is usually enough. Together, they’re what separates the businesses in the map pack from the ones a page behind it.

What Doesn’t Work

Stuffing keywords into your business name on the profile, buying a bundle of a thousand cheap directory links, or creating fake reviews all carry real risk of suspension or penalty rather than the ranking boost they promise. I don’t use any of these, not because they’re against the rules on principle, but because they tend to blow up the exact profile you’re trying to protect.

Tracked, Not Guessed

I measure map pack position with a proper heat map across your service area rather than a single search from one location, because your ranking genuinely varies depending on where the searcher is standing. That’s covered in more depth on the rank tracking page, but the short version is: I know exactly where you rank, everywhere that matters, not just from your office.

A Realistic Timeline

Map pack movement isn’t instant. Expect the first meaningful shifts within the first couple of months, with the strongest gains compounding from month three onwards as citations, reviews and content all mature together. Businesses starting from a genuinely neglected profile often see the fastest early movement, simply because there was so much low-hanging fruit to fix.

Whether you’re competing for jobs in Bretton, Hampton or right across Peterborough, the map pack is where most of your enquiries are being decided, whether you’re paying attention to it or not.
